Step by step

How to export Evernote notes as PDF

Three methods depending on your Evernote platform.

Method 1: Evernote desktop — right-click export

  1. Open the Evernote desktop app (Windows or Mac) and navigate to the note you want to export.
  2. Right-click on the note in the note list (or use File menu with the note open).
  3. Select "Export Note" or "Export" from the context menu.
  4. In the export dialog, choose "PDF" as the format.
  5. Select a save location and filename, then click Export.
  6. Evernote generates a PDF with the note content, including text, images, and basic formatting.

Method 2: Evernote web — browser print

  1. Open Evernote in your browser at evernote.com and navigate to the note.
  2. Open the note so it fills the main content area.
  3. Press Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on Mac) to open the browser print dialog.
  4. Set the Destination to "Save as PDF" and click Save.
  5. Note: This method captures the full Evernote web interface — sidebar, toolbar, and note — not just the note content.

Method 3: Multiple notes export (desktop only)

  1. In the Evernote desktop app, select multiple notes by holding Ctrl (or Cmd on Mac) and clicking each note.
  2. Right-click the selection and choose "Export Notes."
  3. Select PDF format. Each note is exported as a separate PDF file — Evernote does not combine them into one document.
Limitations

Common issues when exporting Evernote notes as PDF

Evernote's export works, but the results are often underwhelming.

No PDF export on Evernote web

Evernote's web app has no dedicated PDF export button. Your only option is browser print (Ctrl+P), which captures the entire Evernote interface — sidebar, toolbar, search bar, and all — alongside your note content.

Basic formatting with no templates

Evernote's desktop PDF export preserves basic text formatting but offers no control over typography, layout, or styling. Every exported note looks the same regardless of whether it is a meeting agenda, a research document, or personal notes.

Multi-note export creates separate files

When exporting multiple notes, Evernote creates individual PDF files for each note. There is no option to merge them into a single document, and you cannot control the order or add a table of contents.

Web clippings often break

Notes created with Evernote's web clipper frequently have formatting issues when exported to PDF. Clipped layouts, embedded images, and complex HTML structures can produce garbled or missing content in the PDF output.

Free tier limits exports

Evernote's free tier restricts offline access and has limited export capabilities. Some export formats and batch operations require a paid subscription, adding cost to what should be a basic feature.

On desktop, select multiple notes, right-click, and Export as PDF. Each note becomes a separate PDF file. There is no option to merge them into one document natively.
Evernote web does not have a dedicated PDF export. You need to use browser print (Ctrl+P > Save as PDF). Pretty PDF works on Evernote web and extracts just the note content with professional templates.
Notion has slightly better built-in PDF export with more block type support. Both are limited compared to Pretty PDF's template-based output. For either tool, Pretty PDF produces the best PDF results.
